Bad weather is no match for Stainless Steel!

Above the layered slate walls of the Wales Millennium Centre is the main auditorium roof. The steel industry was once a major employer in Wales, which is why it was decided to use champagne-coloured textured stainless steel for the shell 'dome' of the lyric theatre. The architect decided against using copper and aluminium because they would both change colour with weathering.

The dome of the Wales Millennium Centre is clad in 10,000 square metres of bronze-coloured stainless steel to withstand the weather conditions on the Cardiff Bay waterfront.
