What the European Space Agency, Stainless Steel and Lemons have in common!

The corrosion resistance and high strength properties of Stainless Steel make it the perfect material for use in many applications. At DSM we use it in applications from catering to laboratories, from schools to veterinary practices. It's also on the list of essential materials for satellite and rocket designers.

The ESA (European Space Agency) is now investigating using citric acid, found in diluted lemon juice, as a green alternative to nitric acid when cleaning the metal. 'Passivating' the surface of the Stainless Steel removes any imperfections or contamination left over from the machining process.
